Tech helps MODOT inform travelers

The Missouri Department of Transportation is reminding motorists of several ways MoDOT helps travelers plan for their trips.

MoDOT offers an online traveler Information Map as well as a traveler's Information App for their phones and an E-updates email system where travelers can get information sent directly to their e-mail inbox. MoDOT also offers links to major road closures and road conditions on Facebook and twitter.

Assistant Director of Communications with MoDOT, Matt Hiebert, says it's important for his department to have an on-line presence.

"We've seen a huge rise over the past decade in people engaging with us electronically, digitally, online.  That is the public expectation on where to get traveler information now."

Hiebert also says message boards along Missouri's interstates and major highways have become popular with motorists.

"Quite often you'll see some clever message about buckling your seatbelt to driving safely.  Or it'll have some kind of stat of interest to try to educate the public on what's going on with fatalities, seat belt use, and things of that nature.  They also give you traffic information as you are approaching an incident.  If something is blocking the road ahead, it'll give you a heads-up."

Motorist's are urged to go to MoDOT.org for more information.
